- What
- EDOF lenses (Extended Depth of Focus) give a continuous range of sharpness from distance to the screen, with markedly fewer halos than multifocal lenses.
- For whom
- Lots of screen work, driving including at night, glare-sensitive; a light pair of reading glasses for small print is acceptable.
- Duration
- 15 to 20 minutes per eye, often a clear improvement by the next day.
- Price
- €3,500 per eye, fixed price for every lens type (monofocal, toric, EDOF, multifocal), incl. follow-up checks under the quality scheme. From €68/month.
- Not suitable
- Anyone who wants full near vision without any glasses (then trifocal), untreated eye disease.
EDOF stands for extended depth of focus. Instead of fixed focal points (as with multifocal or trifocal lenses), the optics create a continuous zone of sharpness from distance to the intermediate range (about 60 to 90 cm).
Advantage: a very natural visual impression, calm night vision (tendentially fewer halos) and a stable computer range. Ideal for everyday life, work and driving.
One picture to remember it by: like a modern autofocus that keeps not just one point but a whole range in focus.
