Education

The head eye surgeon at EyeLaser, Dr. med. univ. Victor Derhartunian, FEBO, learned his trade from the two pioneers of laser surgery: Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Kohnen (University Eye Clinic Frankfurt) and Prof. Dr. med. Dr. rer. nat. Theo Seiler (IROC Institute Zurich), who performed the world’s first laser eye surgery. Today, Dr. Derhartunian makes use of this invaluable knowledge to become one of the leading surgeons in Europe and to continuously develop the laser eye surgery procedure to a new level. The specialist in ophthalmology and optometry studied medicine at the University of Vienna. He completed his specialist training at the renowned university eye clinics in Erlangen and Frankfurt am Main as well as in Great Britain. From 2009, Dr. Derhartunian worked primarily in Switzerland, where he worked with Prof. Dr. Theo Seiler, the pioneer and leading expert in refractive surgery, as part of a fellowship at the IROC Institute. Dr. Derhartunian can advise his patients in 5 languages: German, English, French, Russian and Polish. This ensures smooth communication during consultation and discussion of the operation, even for international treatments.

Volunteer experience

Several cataract eye camps in India 11/2009-03/2010 Dr. Derhartunian treated several hundred people who could not afford cataract surgery. This took place not only in the city of Jaipur, but also in the entire province of Rajasthan. “It was a life experience that still shapes me every day.
