Hyperopia is a refractive error of the eye in which either the eyeball is too short or the refractive power of the eye is too low. The focal point is therefore behind the retina instead of on it.
The closer an object is to the eye, the more blurred it becomes. However, people with strong farsightedness cannot see clearly either close up or in the distance. A long-sighted person has a positive dioptre (e.g. +4.0 dpt).
