Conventional laser treatment is not suitable for some patients.
If there are reasons that prevent the laser from being used effectively, EyeLaser Zurich offers the option of restoring vision with lens surgery – the same applies to cataracts.
Femto LASIK uses a femtosecond laser to create a thin flap, which is then lifted to allow access to the underlying corneal layer.
An excimer laser is then used to precisely sculpt the shape of the cornea and correct the visual defects.
Femto-LASIK can be considered up to the following limits: short-sightedness up to max.
10 diopters, long-sightedness up to max.
4 diopters and astigmatism up to max.
6 diopters.
In contrast to Femto-LASIK, Trans-PRK does not create a flap.
Instead, the superficial epithelial cell layer is removed directly using an excimer laser in order to model the underlying corneal layer and correct the visual defects.
Trans-PRK can be considered up to the following limits: short-sightedness up to max.
8 diopters, long-sightedness up to max.
3 diopters and astigmatism up to max.
6 diopters.
Lenticule extraction is an advanced method of refractive eye surgery.
In this technique, a small piece of tissue, called a “lenticule”, is removed from the cornea to change the refractive power of the eye and correct the visual defect.
Only a tiny corneal incision is required – significantly less tissue removal than with Femto-LASIK or Trans-PRK.
At our laser eye center, we rely on SmartSight for lenticule extraction.
This is based on the same approach as SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) and ReLEx SMILE (Refractive Lenticule Extraction).
SmartSight can be used up to the following limits: myopia up to max.
10 diopters, long-sightedness cannot be corrected and astigmatism up to max.
5 diopters.

Keratoconus is an eye disease characterized by progressive thinning and bulging of the cornea.
However, by means of Crosslinking process the progression of this protrusion can be halted and possibly even reversed.
After such treatment, further therapy with keratoconus ring segments can help.
