What types of laser eye treatments are there?
Dr. Victor Derhartunian explains different types of laser eye treatments and how they differ
We distinguish between two large groups of laser eye treatments:
Treatments without incision
The treatments without incision, where the laser is applied directly to the corneal surface.
The treatments with cut
And the second group: treatments with cutting, where we first create a thin lamella. This is folded open. The visual defect is corrected inside the cornea and at the end of the treatment this flap is folded back.
What difference does this make for the patient?
Treatments without an incision are much more painful after the operation and the patient needs a longer period of time, several days to several weeks, to achieve good vision. However, in the case of treatments with an incision, such as Femto-LASIK surgery, vision is already very good the next day.
