Am I suitable for laser vision correction?

Author: Dr. Victor Derhartunian 26 July 2021

Dr. Victor Derhartunian tells us which people are good candidates for laser eye surgery.

The eye laser corrects short-sightedness up to -8 diopters, long-sightedness up to +3 diopters and astigmatism up to 5 diopters.
There are of course other parameters that are important for suitability, such as the thickness of the cornea and the regularity of the tissue.
If these criteria are met, laser eye surgery can be performed.
If not, then the laser eye surgery alternatives are used.
Of course, there are always patients for whom we cannot offer a single treatment.
Ultimately, it’s all about the safety of the eye.
A multifocal lens is a lens with which presbyopia can also be corrected.
It corrects not only distance vision, but also near and intermediate vision.
There are not only advantages to the multifocal lens, but also occasional minor disadvantages, such as reduced contrast vision and occasionally increased sensitivity to light, especially in the evening.
The latest development in the field of multifocal lenses are the so-called trifocal lenses.
These lenses have the least of the disturbing phenomena.
