What is classic LASIK?

The abbreviation LASIK stands for “laser in situ keratomileusis” and means “ablation using a laser inside the corneal tissue”.
And that is exactly what is done:

A precise incision is made in the cornea with a scalpel so that the surface can be folded back – this is called a flap.
The excimer laser can then shape the underlying cornea so that the focal point lies perfectly on the retina.
The flap is closed again and then heals by itself.

Why Femto-LASIK is significantly better:

The principle behind Femto-LASIK and LASIK is the same.
The only difference is that the femto version uses a high-precision femtosecond laser instead of a scalpel guided by the surgeon.

  • Finer, more precise cutting with the laser
  • Can also be used for higher visual defects and thinner corneas
  • Safety through computer-assisted surgery
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Accelerated healing process with minimal risk of complications

Find out if you are suitable for (femto)LASIK

Free aptitude test
0 €

In your free and non-binding suitability test, we determine in just 15 minutes whether you are suitable for laser vision correction or lens surgery

Non-binding preliminary examination
200 €

During the non-binding preliminary examination, we take at least
90 minutes to carry out a comprehensive examination, answer all your questions and draw up an individual treatment plan

Requirements & indications for LASIK:

If your visual defect can be corrected with LASIK treatment, the femto variant is always an option.
Conversely, the treatment spectrum of LASIK with a scalpel is limited, which is why we at EyeLaser always opt for the modern, safe Femto LASIK:

LASIKFemto-LASIK
Myopiaup to -8 dpt.up to -10 dpt.
Farsightednessup to +3 dpt.up to +4 dpt.
Astigmatismup to 3 dpt.up to 6 dpt.
Corneal thicknessmin. 500-650 micrometers min. 480 micrometers

Contraindications: When LASIK is not possible

A comprehensive preliminary examination will determine whether refractive vision correction – in particular LASIK treatment – is even possible for you.
Possible exclusion criteria may be

  • Glaucoma or cataract (cataract)
  • Progressive corneal diseases e.g. keratoconus or PMD
  • Cornea too thin
  • Age under 18 years
  • Autoimmune diseases & wound healing disorders
  • Fluctuations in the visual defect within 12 months
