Multifocal lenses – freedom from glasses in all areas of vision

Author: Dr. Victor Derhartunian 1 January 2025

Multifocal lenses are high-quality premium artificial lenses that enable sharp vision at different distances. Comparable to permanently implanted varifocals, they offer complete independence from glasses for your active lifestyle.

Understanding the innovative technology

Modern multifocal lenses use a sophisticated optical design with specially designed concentric rings:

  • Multiple optimized focus points for clear vision at different distances
  • Precisely calculated light distribution for optimum visual quality in every situation
  • Harmonious transitions between the visual areas for a natural viewing experience
  • Reduced optical side effects thanks to intelligent light control

Visual quality at different distances

Multifocal lenses offer a new visual experience in all relevant areas of life:

At close range (30-40 cm):

  • Effortless reading of books, newspapers and smartphones
  • Clear vision for handicrafts and hobbies
  • Clear recognition of small details

In the medium range (60-80 cm):

  • Optimum view on the computer screen
  • Clear view of the dashboard while driving
  • Relaxed working at arm’s length

In the distance (over 1 meter):

  • Excellent visibility when driving
  • Clear recognition of faces and signs
  • Unrestricted mobility and orientation

Ideal candidates for multifocal lenses

Multifocal lenses are particularly suitable for people with an active lifestyle:

Professional advantages:

  • Office professionals switch effortlessly between screens, documents and meetings
  • Creative professions benefit from flexible vision for various activities
  • Medical staff can switch between patient examination and documentation

Leisure benefits:

  • Athletes enjoy unrestricted freedom of movement without glasses
  • Travelers have all vision requirements covered without changing glasses
  • Those interested in culture can experience theater, museums and reading without restrictions

Understanding the acclimatization phase

The path to optimal vision with multifocal lenses is a natural neuroadaptive process:

The first days:

  • First experiences with the new vision system
  • Possible perception of halos around light sources
  • Start of brain adaptation

The first few weeks:

  • Significant improvement in visual quality
  • Decrease in the initial optical phenomena
  • Increasingly intuitive use of all visual areas

After 2-3 months:

  • Complete neuroadaptive customization
  • Natural viewing experience in all situations
  • Maximum independence from glasses in everyday life

Questions and answers about multifocal lenses

Will I be completely glasses-free? The vast majority of our patients manage without glasses in everyday life. For special situations, such as very small lettering or special lighting conditions, an additional visual aid can occasionally be helpful.

How strong are the halos and glare at night? During the acclimatization phase, light rings (halos) can be perceived around light sources. The intensity varies from person to person and decreases significantly over time as the brain learns to block out these phenomena.

How long does it take until I can see optimally? The basic visual improvement takes place in the first few days. Full neuroadaptive adaptation is completed after about 3 months. Individual factors can influence this process.

What happens if I am not satisfied with the result? After the stabilization phase, there is the option of precise fine correction using an eye laser. The success rate of these corrections is over 95%.
