Experience report: Phakic lens implantation EyeLaser Vienna
An EyeLaser patient reports on his experience with Phake lens implantation.
I have been short-sighted since the age of 11 and wore glasses for about three years.
My short-sightedness worsened rapidly, so that I had to wear hard contact lenses when I was about 14 or 15.
I tolerated them well until two years ago.
In the last two years, however, I noticed that my eyes were getting red, starting to itch and that I was becoming increasingly sensitive to the hard contact lenses.
So I thought to myself, I want to do something about it. Due to my severe short-sightedness and the fact that my cornea is of normal thickness, I was advised to have an intraocular lens implanted.
was suggested. And after a lot of consideration, I decided to go for it because it seemed to be the best option for me. Now, postoperatively, I can say that I am happy with it, yes. I have had two contact lenses implanted in my eye, in addition to the natural lens. I no longer have glasses, I no longer wear contact lenses, I no longer have any foreign bodies and I can see clearly. At the last examination we had 150% vision, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so clearly in my life. I have to say that I had no post-operative pain, just a slight feeling of pressure in my head, which is of course normal after the operation. After all, there was some manipulation and implantation, but the pain was gone relatively quickly. I experienced sensitivity to light for about two to three days. This has now almost disappeared. I still wear the suggested sunglasses, but I am as sensitive to light as I was for the first two or three days, which has passed quickly. Apart from that, I have no other problems with my eyes. I don’t have a foreign body sensation, I don’t feel anything when I sleep, it doesn’t irritate me. It’s as if these lenses were doing their work latently and I wouldn’t even notice that they were there. Before I had the problem with contact lenses that I noticed that I could feel the lenses every time I blinked. That used to be a problem. The second is that they move, which is also annoying when visualizing if you always notice that the lenses are wobbling. You get used to it, but it’s always a problem. With the current implants, I don’t notice anything at all, my vision is sharp all the time. Glasses were never an option for me, I always had environmental nausea when I moved around, the blurring always made me nauseous. With the lenses I have total vision all around, it’s all sharp. It’s not like with the hard lenses, where the image wobbles, but everything is steady, everything is straight. That’s also something that bothered me incredibly with the glasses, simply that the whole image is so distorted with 11 diopters. With the lenses, everything is tip-top. I can see everything clearly throughout. I’m already looking forward to my vacation in a month’s time. We’re going to Thailand, to a nice vacation resort, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the optics are like there. The next thing is, of course, my wife is looking forward to it too. She’s always thought I had beautiful eyes and now she thinks I’m even more handsome. The other thing, a little joke on the side, as I haven’t seen her so sharply before, she was always able to dart into the bathroom quickly in the morning, freshen up and then I saw her looking tip-top. Now, of course, she fears that I might see her in all her beauty in the morning. But that’s also a positive side effect. Yes, with the diopter I had and the options available to me, I would definitely say yes. There weren’t many other options for me, and I’m so happy with the result that I can say: “Yes, I could recommend this to someone without hesitation.”
