Studies and experiments have shown that the cornea can be stiffened by up to 450%. This effect could be observed after just a few hours. The success rate of the treatment is 98-99%.     <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secure procedure  <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complication rate for CXL is less than three percent. It is a very safe procedure &#8211; no serious complications or side effects have been reported to date. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Damage to the deeper layers by the UV-A light is not to be expected. The riboflavin ensures that the light rays are absorbed. At the same time, the amount of energy should be set so that damage is excluded. The expertise of the attending physician is therefore relevant.   <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which crosslinking technique is best?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two CXL procedures<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EPI-OFF crosslinking &#8211; epithelium is removed before the riboflavin is applied<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EPI-ON Crosslinking &#8211; epithelium is only loosened before the riboflavin is applied<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both techniques offer advantages and disadvantages. You should discuss which one is right for you with your doctor.
