Our clinic is located at Opernring 1 in the 1st district – directly opposite the State Opera, where the Badner Bahn terminates and the U1, U2, and U4 subway lines converge. From Mödling, Baden, or Klosterneuburg, you can be here in just under half an hour; from St. Pölten or Krems, in just over an hour. For the western part of Lower Austria – such as Amstetten or Waidhofen – our Linz location is often the shorter route.

The Karlsplatz subway station is a few minutes’ walk from the entrance. By car, you can reach us via the A2 (South), A1 (West), or A22 (North); parking garages are available under the Opera and at Kärntner Ring.
Which treatment for which eye
The procedure suitable for you is determined not by preference, but by measurement: corneal thickness, diopter value, tear film, and lens status. The preliminary examination takes approximately two hours and forms the basis of every recommendation.

Every treatment is preceded by a detailed preliminary examination. If it shows that a procedure is not advisable for you, we will tell you openly. €200 – in such cases, we explicitly advise against it. Your path in four steps
- Make an appointment. Online or by phone at +43 50 236. Please state which district you are coming from – we will schedule appointments to minimize your travel.
- Preliminary examination in Vienna (approx. 2 hours). Complete measurement of both eyes, followed by a personal consultation with the surgeon. Please bring an accompanying person or travel by public transport – your pupils will be dilated.
- The treatment. Outpatient, under local anesthesia, usually both eyes on the same day. The actual procedure takes only a few minutes per eye.
- Follow-up appointments. On the day after the procedure, then as scheduled – in Vienna or Linz, whichever suits you better.
Frequently Asked Questions from Lower Austria
Do I have to travel to Vienna for every follow-up appointment?
No. We operate two locations – Vienna and Linz – and you can attend follow-up appointments where it is closer for you. However, the first check-up on the day after the procedure takes place where you were operated on.
Can I drive home myself after the preliminary examination?
No. For the measurement, your pupils will be dilated, which impairs vision for several hours. Travel by public transport or bring someone to drive you. The same applies to the day of the treatment.
Does the ÖGK cover the costs?
Laser eye treatment for freedom from glasses is considered a private service and is not paid for by the ÖGK. The situation is different for cataracts: cataract surgery is a service covered by health insurance in a public hospital – but without free choice of doctor. At EyeLaser, you are a private patient and pay €3,500 per eye, regardless of the lens type; we do not have a surcharge for premium lenses. Details can be found on the Cataracts (Cataract) page.
How long will I be unable to work?
After Femto-LASIK and SmartSight, most patients see well again the next day and return to work after one to two days. After Trans-PRK, surface healing takes four to seven days – plan for one week here. After a lens exchange, vision stabilizes over several days to weeks.
I already have cataracts – is laser treatment still advisable?
Generally, no. If your natural lens is clouding, lens exchange is the better option: it resolves the clouding and simultaneously corrects the refractive error. What needs to be considered is explained under Lens Implantation Vienna.
